    Thousands of Hoosiers without power following Monday storms

    INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — More than 30,000 people in Indiana were without power Tuesday morning after a powerful line of storms tore through much of the state on Monday.

    As of 10:30 a.m. EDT, there were about 32,000 people in Indiana without power, primarily in the northwestern part of the state near Lake Michigan, according poweroutage.us .

    Indianapolis area

    In the Indianapolis area, there were about about 5,500 people without power at 10:30 a.m.

    The AES Indiana outage map showed 4,400 customers without power, mostly on the city’s north and northeast, including Broad Ripple, Lawrence, Meridian Hills, Nora, and Northeastwood.

    The Duke Energy outage map showed about 540 people without power in the Indianapolis area, with most of the outages in Carmel.

    Northern and Northwestern Indiana

    Many people in northern Indiana started Tuesday without power, and outages could continue for some time as utility crews hustle to make repairs.

    At 10:30 a.m., Northern Indiana Public Service Company reported approximately 95,000 customers without power, down from a peak of 103,000.

    “Due to the extent of damage, NIPSCO expects this to be a multi-day outage for some customers, so please make the necessary plans to keep your family safe,” NIPSCO said in a 10 a.m. update on X .

    The Indiana Michigan Power outage map showed had just under 9,000 customers in without power a10:30 a.m. The largest outages were reported in Allen, Elkhart, and St. Joseph Counties.
