William Byron talks about his hard wreck at Indianapolis in July 2024

William Byron ’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway ended badly after a big accident in Stage 2. Byron finished Stage 1 in fourth place but found himself in traffic before an accident caused the No. 24 car to have significant contact with the inside wall. Byron was released from the care center as he walked away with a 38th-place finish.

Following the accident, Byron spoke to NBC Sports about the big wreck and put the blame on Chase Briscoe. It was a massive accident, and Byron walking away was the best news.

“We got back there in traffic,” Byron said. “It seemed like the pit stop sequence didn’t go our way there. [Chase Briscoe] was just being a squirrel back in the pack. He drove up in front of me. I had to lift way off the corner and I got run over. Hate it for our team. We had an amazing No. 24 Valvoline Chevy. We were running there on the right strategy in the top two or three; got back there in the pack and got wrecked.”

Byron enters the Olympic break sitting in sixth place in the regular season point standings. The Hendrick Motorsports driver is very close to eighth place, so the next four races will be crucial to earn a few more playoff points. The 2024 NASCAR playoffs are coming soon, and Byron wants to find the magic for another Championship 4 berth.
