Colts Coach Compares One Player To Stephen Curry Amid 'Sharp' Training Camp

So much for the Indianapolis Colts pulling the reins back on Anthony Richardson as a runner in 2024.

Amid the sophomore signal-caller's "sharp" start to training camp, Colts coach Shane Steichen compared Richardson's effectiveness on the ground to Stephen Curry's all-time three-point shooting ability.

Why? To indicate just how foolish it would be for Indianapolis to opt against utilizing the aspect of Richardson's game that truly sets him apart.

"People ask this too a lot, like, 'Hey, are you gonna limit the run game? And I kind of think like, shoot, are you gonna limit Steph Curry from shootin' three-pointers?" Steichen told reporters, courtesy of James Boyd of The Athletic . "Well, that's one of Anthony's strengths. We're not gonna get away from that."

The No. 4 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, Richardson enjoyed a surprisingly strong start to his Colts career, exhibiting passing poise and command of the offense far beyond his years and experience.

Soaring franchise-wide optimism stemming from that development came crashing down in early October, though, when Richardson suffered a shoulder injury running a read-option against the Tennessee Titans. He underwent surgery shortly thereafter and was ruled out for the season's remainder.

Expectations are high for the Colts again as the regular season fast approaches. With a clean bill of health to start training camp, Richardson might be even better in 2024 than he was before going down a year ago.

“Yeah, I think decision-making, quick processing,” Steichen said of what stood out about Richardson's performance at Thursday's practice, per Colts Wire . “Being in this system for two years now, he looks sharp. We’ll go back and look at the tape, but he looked really good today.”
