Indianapolis Colts Urged To Trade For Former Pro Bowl RB

The Indianapolis Colts are a team that looks to be on the rise in 2024. They had a strong first season under new head coach Shane Steichen and will be looking to improve upon their 9-8 campaign.

Keeping quarterback Anthony Richardson will certainly help in that regard. Richardson played in only four games as a rookie before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

The Indianapolis Colts have no plans to change how Richardson plays the position. But, they need to figure out a plan to keep him safer as he exited all but one game he played in last season because of injury.

Continuing to upgrade the supporting cast around him would certainly help. The front office has slowly and surely been adding pieces to the mix to ensure that Richardson can help take his game to another level.

One area on the offense that could use some reinforcements is the running back position. The Indianapolis Colts worked out a long-term deal with Jonathan Taylor last year, but there are still some concerns moving forward with his availability.

He has missed at least six games in two consecutive seasons. Should that happen again in 2024, the Colts would be turning their backfield over to the combination of Trey Sermon and Evan Hull.

That is certainly something the team should want to avoid. One way to do that would be acquiring some talent ahead of the season.

Over at Bleacher Report , Alex Ballentine created one trade every team in the NFL should consider ahead of the regular season. For the Indianapolis Colts, his suggestion was trading for running back Miles Sanders of the Carolina Panthers .

“Sanders was one of the few running backs who earned a notable contract last offseason, but he did not help a struggling Panthers offense. He averaged just 3.3 yards per carry and was surpassed by Chuba Hubbard in the backfield. The Panthers got a new coaching staff, but they used a second-round pick on Jonathon Brooks.

It all signals a front office that would be willing to give away Sanders just for some of the cap relief they would get from the deal.

It’s a situation that the Colts should look to take advantage of. Shane Steichen helped Sanders have his most productive season in 2022. Sanders earned his big payday with 1,347 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns,” Ballentine wrote.

Steichen got the most out of Sanders the last time they worked together and could certainly do it again with the Indianapolis Colts. The 2023 campaign was a disaster for several reasons in Carolina and a change of scenery would do him some good.

Sanders no longer looks to be part of the plans for the Panthers. You don’t use a second-round pick on a player to sit them, and there are other depth options on the roster the team could turn to.

Getting out from under his contract would be a win for Carolina. The Indianapolis Colts would be smart to take a shot on him for a sixth-round pick, as he would be a big upgrade behind Taylor.
