INDIANAPOLIS — The 44 Indianapolis Fire Department stations will go door-to-door, visiting 79 neighborhoods, to deliver pertinent education and tools on fire safety.

“The Indianapolis Fire Department is committed to minimizing and/or eradicating fire related deaths in our service district,” said Rita L. Reith Battalion Chief and Director of Media Relations MPIO.

“The outreach efforts provided by our Firefighters, Fire and Life Safety Public Educators and our Fire Investigations Section are comprehensive, yet we are always looking for ways to do more and reach more,” Reith said.

The event is in support of the IFD’s 10 year anniversary of the ordinance passed on Aug. 1 that encourages all homes in Marion County to have at least one 10 year sealed battery smoke alarm.

If an individual is in need of a smoke alarm they can contact the Smoke Alarm Hotline at 317-327-6093 or view here. Someone at the Fire and Life Safety Division will install one for you.
