MARION COUNTY, Ind. — A man in Indianapolis will spend the next 110 years behind bars for a 2021 double homicide.
Two men were found shot on the north side of Indianapolis on December 1st, 2021. Both men, later identified as Blake Coffman and Andrew Jones, were found in critical condition and later died at the hospital.
Witnesses described hearing “three loud thumps.” A man in a gray sweat suit was seen by witnesses at the crime scene, standing behind the victim’s car. Two phones were found at the scene, one of which belonged to Blake Coffman, one of the victims. Investigators received a search warrant to go through Coffman’s phone and found Instagram messages between Coffman and another account. Both were discussing meeting at the murder scene.
The other account had been deleted hours after the murders. Police used digital forensics to trace the account back to their suspect, Camran Perry.
Perry was taken into custody in January of 2022. He originally denied knowing Coffman and Jones, but later confessed to meeting up with them to buy something. Perry told police an argument started between the men, which led to Perry fatally shooting both.
“Young people having easy access to firearms leads to them making poor, split-second decisions that result in senseless deaths and tragedy,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears in a Thursday press release, “it is incumbent upon us to continue to empower young people with the tools to be mindful of the long-term consequences of gun violence in order to avoid tragedies like this.”
Camran Perry was found guilty in July of two counts of murder and carrying a handgun without a license.
