INDIANAPOLIS — An Indy man has been sentenced to over 100 years in prison after being found guilty of shooting and killing two people on the north side of Indianapolis three years ago.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday afternoon that Camran Perry was sentenced to 110 years in prison after being found guilty of two felony counts of murder and a misdemeanor charge of carrying a handgun without a license during a two-day jury trial in July.

IMPD officers arrest suspect in December double homicide

According to previous reports , officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called on Dec. 1, 2021, to the 8800 block of Westfield Way in response to a person shot. Officers arrived and found two men, later identified as 21-year-old Andrew Jones and 20-year-old Blake Coffman, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were initially reported to be in critical condition before they later died as a result of their gunshot wounds.

MCPO said investigators spoke with a witness who reportedly them that they recalled hearing “three loud thumps” and observing a man wearing a gray sweatsuit behind a vehicle that belonged to the victims. The witness also told investigators that the suspect then fled the scene.

Police also recovered two cell phones at the scene of the double murder, with detectives later determining that one of the phones had belonged to Coffman.

Investigators subsequently had search warrants for the phone approved and sifted through Coffman’s personal Instagram account where they discovered messages that discussed meeting at the address where the fatal double shooting occurred.

The user that had engaged in these messages with Coffman had reportedly deleted their account hours after the shooting took place, according to MCPO. Investigators soon linked the account to Perry after digital forensics teams conducted more research.

Perry was taken into custody by IMPD on Jan. 10. During his questioning, MCPO said Perry informed detectives that he did not know either of the victims. However, he later confessed to meeting the pair in a parked vehicle to purchase marijuana.

During this meeting, Perry admitted to investigators that a verbal altercation occurred before he fatally shot the two men from the backseat of the car and ran off.

“Young people having easy access to firearms leads to them making poor, split-second decisions that result in senseless deaths and tragedy,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said. “It is incumbent upon us to continue to empower young people with the tools to be mindful of the long-term consequences of gun violence in order to avoid tragedies like this.”
