A man in Indianapolis has been sentenced to 145 years behind bars after he was convicted in the deadly shooting of three adults and one 7-year-old girl.

Malik Halfacre , 28, was sentenced Friday, according to the Marion County prosecutor's office. Police said that the fatal shooting came after an argument with his former girlfriend about her federal Covid-19 relief money .

Halfacre’s ex-girlfriend, Jeanettrius Moore, was the only person wounded who survived the attack that killed four of her family members including her seven-year-old daughter.

  • Halfacre told Moore that he was “gonna get that money” and was rooting in her purse for her $1,400 stimulus check when he opened fire on her.

He then turned the gun on Moore’s 23-year-old brother Daquan Moore, her 44-year-old mother Tomeeka Brown, her 35-year-old Cousin Anthony Johnson and her 7-year-old daughter Eve Moore. Halfacre and Moore share a daughter who was 6 months old and present during the shootings, but was not injured.

Moore hid in a neighbors porch until the police came, while Halfacre fled the scene, taking her purse, her car and their child with him. He was later arrested in a friend’s attic, according to court documents.

In March of this year, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears suggested the death penalty as an option for Halfacre. He pleaded guilty to four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder and was handed a 145 year sentence from the judge on Friday.
