INDIANAPOLIS The Colts have released their first depth chart of the 2024 preseason.

We are now 8 practices in at Grand Park, with the Colts having their first preseason game coming up on Sunday afternoon vs. Denver:

Here’s a look at the depth chart released by the Colts, with some takeaways from myself (*denotes rookie):

Quarterback: Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco, Sam Ehlinger, Kedon Slovis*, Jason Bean*

Running Back: Jonathan Taylor, Trey Sermon, Tyler Goodson, Evan Hull, Trent Pennix*, Zavier Scott

Wide Receiver: Michael Pittman Jr., Ashton Dulin, D.J. Montgomery, Laquon Treadwell

Wide Receiver: Josh Downs* Anthony Gould*, Ethan Fernea

Wide Receiver: Alec Pierce OR AD Mitchell*, Juwann Winfree, Tyrie Cleveland, Derek Sywka

Tight End: Mo Alie-Cox, Drew Ogletree, Eric Tomlinson

Tight End: Kylen Granson, Jelani Woods, Will Mallory, Jordan Murray

Left Tackle: Bernhard Raimann, Blake Freeland, Jake Witt

Left Guard: Quenton Nelson, Danny Pinter OR Tanor Bortolini* OR Wesley French

Center: Ryan Kelly, Danny Pinter OR Tanor Bortolini* OR Wesley French

Right Guard: Will Fries, Josh Sills OR Dalton Tucker

Right Tackle: Braden Smith, Matt Gonclaves*, Arlington Hambright

    Offensive Notes:

    • I would also call Trey Sermon the 2 nd running back, but I’m curious how the Colts will handle pass-down duties when Jonathan Taylor isn’t involved. Both Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull have gotten some looks in that role.

    • Again, I think you could probably flip a coin on that No. 2 outside wideout between Alec Pierce and AD Mitchell with that OR designation accurate here. Both have rotated, almost daily, between the first and second teams.

    • It would be light pencil, but I would call the tight end order right now this: Kylen Granson, Drew Ogletree, Mo Alie-Cox, Jelani Woods, Will Mallory (currently dealing with a hamstring injury. Again, light pencil for a group that has rotated a lot, with Granson/Ogletree/Alie-Cox getting the most first-team work.

    • As expected, the starting offensive line hasn’t been touched in camp, outside of Braden Smith being brought along slowly. The depth spots have some question though. Third-round rookie Matt Goncalves has mainly drilled at right tackle, but he’s also seen some recent reps at left tackle and even right guard. Fourth-round rookie Tanor Bortolini has been at center and a little guard, too. I still think Freeland and Goncalves are competing for that swing tackle spot, with Freeland taking plenty of RT reps this camp.

Defensive End: Kwity Paye, Laiatu Latu*, Genard Avery, Titus Leo

Defensive End: Tyquan Lewis, Dayo Odeyingbo, Isaiah Land, Levi Bell, Samson Ebukam (torn Achillies)

Defensive Tackle: DeForest Buckner, Adetomiwa Adebawore, Jonah Laulu*

Defensive Tackle: Grover Stewart, Taven Bryan, Eric Johnson II, Raekwon Davis (on PUP list)

WILL: E.J. Speed, Jaylon Carlies*, Craig Young*

MIKE: Zaire Franklin, Cameron McGrone, Liam Anderson

SAM: Segun Olubi, Grant Stuard, Austin Ajiake

Cornerback: JuJu Brents, Dallis Flowers, Ameer Speed, Clay Fields III

Cornerback: Jaylon Jones, Darrell Baker Jr., Jaylin Simpson*

Nickel: Kenny Moore II, Chris Lammons, Micah Abraham*, Michael Tutsie

Free Safety: Nick Cross, Rodney Thomas II, Trevor Denbow, Marcell Dabo

Strong Safety: Julian Blackmon, Ronnie Harrison Jr., Kendell Brooks*

    Defensive Notes:

    • With Samson Ebukam out for the season and Dayo Odeyignbo missing the last week-plus of practice, the Colts have rotated 3 defensive ends with the starting group: Kwity Paye, Tyquan Lewis and Laiatu Latu.

    • That third linebacker spot is probably either Olubi or Carlies, depending on the skillset that is desired.

    • The cornerback battle hasn’t been much of one. With Kenny Moore a lock, and JuJu Brents and Jaylon Jones the two outside cornerbacks when they go to the nickel grouping (3 cornerbacks on the field).

    • Through 8 days at Grand Park, Nick Cross continues to be the leader at free safety, but things are not locked up by any means. Ronnie Harrison Jr. and Rodney Thomas II have each received looks with the starting group as Gus Bradley looks for consistency next to Julian Blackmon.

Kick Returner: Dallis Flowers, Anthony Gould*, Josh Downs

Punt Returner: Josh Downs, Anthony Gould*, Dallis Flowers

    • Returner Notes: I’m still kind of serious on the “who knows” at kick returner. With the new rule change back there, special teams coordinator Brian Mason has tried numerous guys back there in camp. It’s going to be interesting to see how that ends up playing out in the desired skillset. But the punt returner duo of Downs and Gould have been the main guys.
