Draymond explains why Curry plays well against Andrew Nembhard: "I don't know if there's any way to fix the issue"

Stephen Curry 's last three games against the Indiana Pacers have been lit as if he has an axe to grind every time he plays the Pacers.

If you ask Golden State forward Draymond Green , that's true. According to Dray, Steph marks the calendar every Pacers game because he has a grudge against former Gonzaga standout Andrew Nembhard . Green narrated the reason during his recent appearance on Jeff Teague's Club520 podcast.

"If you go back to the 2022-23 season, which would be Nemhard's rookie year, right? If you go back and watch the game, when we played the Pacers in The Bay, Nemhard gave us hell, complete hell. And he was talking so crazy and Steph was guarding him. And the shots he was hitting, Steph would just turn and look like, 'Yo what?' So in turn, what you then did was every time that guy sees you now, he at you now," Dray explained.

    Rookie Nembhard trash-talked Steph

Green was talking about the December 5, 2022, game between the Pacers and Warriors at Chase Center. In that game, Nembhard lit up Golden State with 31 points on 13-21 shooting, including 5-7 from three-point range.

Meanwhile, Curry struggled with just 12 points on 3-17 shooting, including a paltry 2-10 from three-point range. It's one thing that Steph struggled, but not only did the Warriors lose that game 104-112, but Andrew talked trash to one of the all-time greats. That was a mistake.

"Blame Nembhard," added Green. "But y'all gonna have a hard time with us because Steph got an issue. I don't really know if there's any way to fix the issue, except for him to stop playing basketball because every time he sees Nembhard, it's over. It's a wrap."

    Steph kept his receipts

The two teams met nine days later at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and Stephen did not forget what Nembhard had done to them in their previous meeting. Curry scored 27 first-half points and 11 more in the second half before departing the game with 2:04 left in the third quarter with a left shoulder injury. The Pacers won 125-119, but #30 sent his nemesis a message.

This past season, the Dubs and Pacers met two times. During their first meeting on February 8, 2024, Chef Curry made his first seven triples on his way to 42 points, including 29 in the first half, as the Warriors drubbed the Pacers 131-109. He followed that up with a 25-11-5 game on March 22, 2024. Indy is up 2-1 against the Dubs during that span, but it's clear that Steph is out for blood every game.

Curry is currently playing for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The two-time NBA MVP is shooting just 35.7% from the field and 25% from three-point range. It would have been interesting if the U.S. faced Canada in the gold medal game because Nembhard is on Team Canada. Unfortunately, the U.S. was ousted by host France in the quarterfinals, so Steph will have to wait for next season to torch Andrew again.
