The 2023 season went well for the Indianapolis Colts , as they finished with a 9-8 record. Considering the Colts lost their quarterback Anthony Richardson for the season fairly early on, they were able to contend for a playoff spot in the tough AFC.
Now, the Colts will be hoping to take a step forward in 2024, as they will be battling with the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South.
Luckily for the Colts, they will have Richardson back from injury. While the sample size for Richardson was small last year, he was impressive when on the field.
Pro Football Network recently used their algorithm to predict the 2024 season, and for Colts fans, the results came out positive.
In the prediction, they had the Colts going 12-5 and winning the AFC South. Here’s what they had to say.
“The simulation has the AFC South as a two-horse race once again in 2024, but this time, the Indianapolis Colts come out on top.
While the Houston Texans don’t quite live up to their lofty expectations for this season, they still finish with an impressive 11-6 record and the No. 5 seed in the AFC. Unfortunately for them, however, this means traveling to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs in the Wild Card Round.”
Colts will need big progression from Anthony Richardson
After a solid 2023 campaign, the Colts could certainly take another step forward this season, but it will not be easy. Going into the season, most believe that it will be the Texans on the top of the division, but the South also has the Jaguars who can compete with Trevor Lawrence at quarterback.
The floor and ceiling for the Colts really relies on what Richardson can become as the starting quarterback. In four games last season, Richardson totaled 577 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and one interception. Richardson will have to improve as a passer, as he completed 59 percent of his passes.
On the ground, Richardson is truly a dual-threat quarterback, as he totaled 136 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
If Richardson takes another step forward and can stay healthy in his sophomore year, the Colts will be in a good position to live up to this prediction. However, while there is a lot of potential for Richardson, there are still a lot of unknowns as well.
In the AFC South, competition is going to be stiff, but Anthony Richardson and the Colts can certainly win the division if things go right.
