    There's a heat advisory in Indiana today. A heat index of 110 is possible.

    A heat advisory has been issued for most of Indiana today, with a heat index up to 110 degrees possible with some cities seeing temperatures as high as 98 degrees.

    Here's what to know.

    Indiana heat advisory

    According to the heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, we can expect hot temperatures with high humidity throughout the day.

    Heat indices will peak from 100 to 110 this afternoon across the state. Individual cities and town will see temperatures in the high 90s, with the highest temperature in the forecast being 98 degrees.

    The heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

    Tonight, there is a chance of scattered thunderstorms over Northern Indiana which will push to the South, Southeast into portions of Central Indiana.

    Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible this evening through tonight.

    Heat safety reminders

    We will be experiencing dangerous, hot conditions Tuesday. It is important to:

    • Stay hydrated
    • Remain indoors where it is air conditioned
    • Avoid outdoor activities in extreme heat
    • Wear sunscreen and loose-fitting clothing if you have to be outside
    • Avoid caffeine and alcohol as they speed up dehydration
    • Never leave kids or pets unattended in hot cars

    It is never safe to leave a child, disabled person or pet locked in a car. For more information about how cars can heat up quickly when left in the sun, check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website in both English and Spanish .

    NWS warns in its advisory that car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes in the expected conditions.

    The Indiana counties included in the heat advisory are: Adams, Allen, Bartholomew, Blackford, Boone, Brown, Carroll, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, De Kalb, Decatur, Delaware, Elkhart, Fountain, Fulton, Grant, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Howard, Huntington, Jackson, Jay, Jennings, Johnson, Knox, Lagrange, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Martin, Miami, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Noble, Northern La Porte, Owen, Parke, Pulaski, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, Shelby, Starke, Steuben, St. Joseph, Sullivan, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Vermillion, Vigo, Wabash, Warren, Wells, White and Whitley.
