PGA Tour's number one Scottie Scheffler got hit with a brutal jab from his golf pal Sam Burns, who branded the ace 'terrible' in commentary during the second swing of the Tour Championship at East Lake.

Scheffler is on his path to grab his first FedEx Cup title in Atlanta , kicking off with a two-shot advantage courtesy of the staggered strokes setup that mirrors the seasonal ranks.

He's widened this lead even further, sitting comfortably at 21-under-par, four strokes ahead of Collin Morikawa in second place.

However, not all was smooth sailing for Scheffler in round two, where an off-target tee shot landed him in a fairway bunker on the 13th. His subsequent shot from the sand missed the green entirely.

Burns, Scheffler's fellow contender who'd wrapped up his own game, had popped into the Golf Channel's commentator box and couldn't resist poking fun at Scheffler's performance. With Scheffler's ball on course to hop from one bunker over to the next, Burns let slip on air: "This guy is terrible!".

It was all in jest, though, as Burns and Scheffler have a tight bond within the PGA Tour circuit. Their camaraderie goes beyond the green; Ryder Cup champ Burns even took on babysitting duties for Scheffler's newborn son Bennett, reports the Mirror US .

During Scheffler's drive at the FedEx St Jude Championship earlier in the month, Burns was spotted lifting little Bennett up high as his dad took to the tee.

The pair are frequently inseparable on the PGA Tour, often sharing practice rounds and accommodation. A friendly wager during practice is a common occurrence between the two as they prepare for a tournament alongside golfers like Justin Thomas and Max Homa.

Scheffler confessed that he quickly realized his mate Burns was someone you'd want on your side in a fourball match. "Usually always the best ball match play just because it's a practice round," he recently admitted.

"It's more just match play. Sam and I have played a lot of practice rounds together."

"But he would thrash me at the start of the week, just completely dominate me. So I started picking him as my partner, and we've been doing much better since I chose him as my partner. We usually play two-on-two matches or if it's just Sam and me going out, we'll play a little one-on-one match."

While there's often something at stake between the two sides, Scheffler believes that practicing with Burns and others is the best way to gear up for an event. "This week, Sam and I played against Justin and Max on Monday, and it's just fun," he added.

"It's a good time with your mates. The beginning of the weeks are typically more relaxed."
