SUNY Fredonia Hosting Upward Bound Summer Classes for High School Students
Nearly 100 high area school students are participating in a college preparedness program at SUNY Fredonia this summer. The Upward Bound program includes students from the Dunkirk, Silver Creek, Brocton, Chautauqua Lake and Ripley school districts who enroll as freshmen and remain with the program through their senior year. Upward Bound provides two programs during the summer: an intensive six-week residential program and Summer Excellence, which features classes held on two afternoons each week. The non-residential program is designed to "keep their skills going in the summer," according to Upward Bound Director Loretta Torain.

Fredonia Central School District Continues to Seek Public Input on Capital Project
The Fredonia Central School District continues to ask for public input regarding its proposed $50 million capital improvement project. This follows a presentation made during last week's Board of Education meeting. District officials say an online survey and information on each of the three propositions is available until Thursday, August 1st. Anyone who is unable to fill out the survey online and does not have access to a printer is asked to call the district office at (716) 679-1581 and request a printed version. The next Board of Education workshop on the proposed project is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6th from 5:00-6:00 PM and is open for the public to attend without comment. The board's regular meeting will follow at 6:00 PM and will include a presentation about the project and a time for public comment.
