LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Steady rain has pushed off to the east leaving us with mild and cloudy skies for most of our Saturday. Sunshine and cooler conditions return for Sunday.

This morning we saw widespread rain with most of us seeing almost an inch of rain however in places closer to Jackson MI they saw totals pretty close to 2 inches! Because of all this heavy rain, there is a flood advisory until 11:45 a.m. for portions of South Central and Southwest Michigan including Calhoun, Eaton, Ingham, and Jackson as well as Barry. Any additional rain could cause flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.

The majority of the rain that we saw this morning is pushing out to our east leaving behind mostly cloudy skies and humid air in its place. Temperatures are in the low 70s with dew points into the upper 60s so we are feeling rather tropical and humid across mid-Michigan. Temperatures will warm into the low to mid-80s with partly to mostly cloudy skies all day.

Heading into the afternoon we could see a few peeks of sunshine which could trigger some pop-up thunderstorms closer to the Michigan/Ohio Stateline, so keep an eye on the sky and have multiple ways to receive alerts this afternoon! Any storms that do develop could have gusty winds and some small hail. Skies remain partly cloudy into tonight with temperatures in the mid-50s.

Kicking off the upcoming week we see a high-pressure system move in allowing for Northeast winds to remain in place which will usher in cooler and drier air for both Sunday and Monday before transitioning to a more seasonal trend for Tuesday and Wednesday. Get the sunglasses and sunscreen ready for Sunday as we will have plenty of sunshine with daytime temperatures into the upper 60s to low 70s and overnight lows dropping into the upper 40s to low 50s area wide.

Heading into Tuesday our high-pressure system pushes slightly to the east allowing for our winds to come from the south allowing for temperatures to warm up closer to average into the upper 70s to low 80s for the remainder of the week.

The Fourth of July holiday looks to be dry with temperatures into the low 80s however there is rain on either side of the holiday so we will continue to monitor the forecast to see if there is a chance for rain to return on Thursday.
