With training camp here, next for the Jacksonville Jaguars is the preseason and then the regular season. But let's live in the moment a bit because a lot is going on in training camp. Let's start with the horridness that was Day 1 for Trevor Lawrence.
On Day 1, he threw five interceptions. It was awful, and many beat writers and reporters on site were calling it a day where they just needed to wrap up practice early so he didn't throw more. I know, you certainly didn't come here to relive that day.
But, now we are at Day 10, and so far, Lawrence has been almost perfect. He's *unofficially* 54-of-65 with 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions in team periods. And, better yet, he is creating some great chemistry with the new guys, meaning new signees, rookies, and UDFAs. One underrated and unknown weapon to the general public especially, since he is working well with, as they are playing at a whole other level during camp.
Elijah Cooks, an undrafted free-agent wide receiver from the last draft class, and a guy that not many know about, is expanding on his connection with Lawrence and has had several really good plays so far in camp.
But, none of them was bigger than the one he had on Sunday, where he and Lawrence connected on a deep ball that saw Cooks pretty much wide open after slicing up the defense.
The Jaguars have a significantly different wide receiver room going into 2024, than they did last year. But, Cooks was there, and he, along with Christian Kirk, Evan Engram, and Parker Washington, are pretty much the only guys from last year.
Cooks played in just nine games last season and was targeted just four times. He is showing that he could possibly contribute more than that in 2024.
