The Jacksonville Jaguars are getting at it at training camp , so much so, that it's very noticeable -- too noticeable, one would say.
Training camp is here, the pads are on, and the Jaguars are just four days away from playing the Kansas City Chiefs in preseason Week 1, the same team that broke their playoff dreams just two years ago. Now, getting revenge in a preseason game won't really change anything or make that heartbreak go away, but, with a lot of the world watching, it's a great time to show they are ready in terms of their roster construction as a whole.
Because the season is so close, things are getting tense. This team has a lot on the line. They were the Cinderella team two years ago, similar to how the Houston Texans were this last year. They snuck into the playoffs and won a game. And, to be honest, they had a very good shot at beating the Super Bowl champions that year.
They went from winning a playoff game to not making the playoffs. They went from being the No. 1 overall seed in Week 8 to a team on the outside looking in, with a roster that made some moves. This offseason, they made even bigger moves, and it's clear they are going all in for a playoff push.
So, yeah, things are heating up, and you can see that when you see a fight or scuttle, I should say, break out at camp.
During practice, new wide receiver Gabe Davis was hit hard by Buster Brown, and Christian Kirk didn't like it. So, he stood up for his fellow receiver and actually hit Brown. It wasn't really a brawl, but some punches and pushes were thrown and players reacted how you would expect. It's all in that these guys just care so much.
However, Gabe Davis let it be known he had no part in the scuttle.
“I was on the ground, so I didn’t start any of that," Davis told reporters after practice.
It's safe to say the guys are definitely getting after it.
