UPDATE 1920 HOURS PT | The fire was mapped at 903 by OES Intel 24 at 1830hours PT. The MCCAIN FIRE is burning at I-8 on McCain Valley Road in Boulevard, California. The FIRE has burned about 714 acres and the other is a 0% containment status at the time of this post.
Crews make progress fighting brush fire near Campo east of San Diego
Firefighters responded Monday to a brush fire that grew to several dozen acres Monday in far east San Diego County. The fire dubbed the Kitchen Creek Fire started around 10:30 a.m. near Old Hwy 80 and Kitchen Creek Road about 15 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette said.

Mccain Fire Continues to Burn
A brush fire that was started Monday afternoon by a car accident continues to burn. The Mccain Fire had scorched nearly 1,400 acres by late Tuesday afternoon. The fire is burning in dense brush north of Interstate 8, near the eastern San Diego community of Jacumba. According to CalFire, there are 223 personnel battling the blaze with 4 helicopters, 14 engines, 2 dozers, 2 water tenders and assorted other equipment. As of late Tuesday the fire was 30 percent contained. Evacuation orders had been issued for a number of nearby resident but have since been lifted. No structures have been damaged or destroyed but there was one reported injury. CalFire was hopeful that cooler temperatures and lighter winds would allow crews to make progress against the fire overnight.
