Traffic cam law brings new changes
The new Iowa state law that regulates traffic cameras went into effect Monday, July 1, will have Oelwein changing the rulebook for citations issued. House File 2681 passed on May 17, 2024, on a 46-1 vote. The bill outlined that the Iowa Department of Transportation can oversee the implementation of automated traffic enforcement (ATE) systems. Through this decision, Iowa counties and cities would be required to submit explanations on why the ATE systems are needed at specific locations, which includes data on crashes, speeds and potential issues located in the proposed area.
