CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Johnson City man was charged with kidnapping and assault after allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint and forcing her into a vehicle, police report.

According to a release from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), a woman called 911 around 12:30 a.m. Sunday stating her daughter was forced into a gold-colored SUV and was being held at gunpoint.

Deputies later located the SUV and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, identified by police as David Frye, 31, of Johnson City, was arrested on five outstanding warrants regarding previous incidents from May.

The warrants charged Frye with three counts of domestic assault, theft of property, failure to appear in court and an Attachment for Contempt out of Juvenile Court.

Deputies then spoke with the passenger, who had visible bruising and marks on her neck and face.

The woman told police the incident began Saturday when Frye assaulted her by punching her in the head and throwing her around a home on Hillside Drive in Johnson City, the release said.

Frye then became concerned that someone had heard the assault and would call 911, so he forced her to get into the vehicle, the woman told police.

After returning to the home, Frye eventually went to sleep but then woke up angry at the woman.

The woman then walked outside the home to call her mother to pick her up. While on the phone, Frye reportedly came outside, got a firearm from his vehicle, placed the gun against her head and told her to get in the car, the CCSO stated.

The woman told police she got into the vehicle due to being afraid Frye would shoot her.

Frye and the woman were driving back to the Hillside Drive home when deputies stopped the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle reportedly found a loaded firearm under the driver’s seat.

Frye was charged with the following, according to the sheriff’s office:

    • Especially aggravated kidnapping
    • Aggravated domestic assault
    • False imprisonment
    • Domestic assault

He was taken to the Carter County Detention Center without bond.
