JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Washington County Animal Shelter welcomed a pair of roosters on Thursday after receiving a call that the farm animals had wandered onto someone’s property.

New EMA Director named for Washington County, Johnson City

Tammy Davis, the shelter’s executive director, said the roosters are not the first farm animals to need a temporary home.

“So, I think the public needs to remember and understand that we’re not only an adoption center, but we are responsible for animal control,” said Davis. “So, having said that, we get numerous calls every day concerning the welfare of animals, stray animals, which can include roosters, it can be pigs, it can be chickens, goats, everything. We take everything in.”

After being in the shelter for less than 24 hours, Davis confirmed that the two roosters will be going to their new homes on Friday.

Davis said the shelter receives farm animals every few months and strives to return them to farm life.
