JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Greenville woman died following a single-vehicle crash in Johnston.

Police said the woman, identified as 36-year-old Michaela Greatorex, hit a utility pole on Hartford Avenue around midnight Wednesday.

There were heavy downpours at the time, according to police.

Greatorex suffered serious injuries and later died at the hospital.

Rhode Island State Police said one of their troopers was involved in a similar crash on Route 6 about an hour later. He suffered minor injuries after his cruiser hydroplaned and hit the retention wires in the center median.
