Jerry Cervantez Joins A-State Baseball Staff for 2025 Season
Arkansas State baseball head coach Mike Silva announced Tuesday the addition of former Texas State assistant coach Jerry Cervantez to the Red Wolves’ staff. Cervantez arrives in Jonesboro after spending the last six years with the Bobcats. He served as the hitting and catching coach, playing an important role in their 2019 Sun Belt Conference championship and 2022 Sun Belt West Division title. Texas State established a new team record for home runs in 2022 (87) and nearly matched that mark the next season (83). Cervantez helped lead the program to its first regional finals in school history and guided Dalton Shuffield to All-American and Sun Belt Player of the Year honors.
Nettleton’s Donna Douglas named two-time Gatorade Arkansas Girls Track and Field Player of the Year
JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Donna Douglas has been named the two time Gatorade Arkansas girls track & field player of the year. “Sometimes I just sit back and think man, this is crazy.” Douglas said. Not only has she set the 5-a, meet of champions and Arkansas overall records in the discus and shot put, but now she is the back to back Gatorade Arkansas girls track and field player of the year.
Watkins follow teammate to A-State
For the second straight year the Arkansas State Red Wolves have grabbed a player with Jackson (Miss.) Academy ties. Defensive back Samuel "DJ" Watkins, who is prepping for his senior season at Madison Ridgeland Academy after transferring from Jackson Academy in December, pledged his commitment to the A-State last week. Former high school teammate Kiandre Terry will be a freshman with the Red Wolves this season.
