    Gas leak closes 32nd and Main St, Joplin Police investigate hit-and-run at business

    UPDATE : The roadway was reopened at 11:30 a.m. but repairs will continue at the location causing some delays at 32nd and South Joplin Ave.

    JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — About 9:45 a.m. Wednesday Joplin Fire Dept were alerted to a gas leak at Cami Nail Salon, 3128 South Joplin Ave.

    CLOSED: all traffic within a two block radius was halted. It was a significant leak. MoDOT Emergency Response assisted and City of Joplin Public Works.

    Joplin Police tell us early this morning or sometime during the night a vehicle struck a gas meter, sheering it off. It was obviously a hit and run due to the property damage.

    Gas was actively leaking from the line. The highest levels of gas were present in the basement of the building.

    Everyone had already evacuated the Cami Nail Salon safely. No one was injured.

    Joplin Police say they are investigating hit-and-run at the business. If anyone saw anything suspicious or they have information contact them at 417-623-3131.
