LAFAYETTE — A glare came from the eyes of Benton Central outside hitter Cali Foster during the third set against Central Catholic on Thursday night.

Central Catholic rattled off six straight points to keep its slim chances of stunning Benton Central in tact during the third set after being sent out of rotation throughout the first two sets.

The sixth point of the third set caught the attention of Foster. Referees said had her hand too far over the net to spike the ball despite the only athlete jumping to attack the net.

"I use that as momentum to go into my next couple of kills and it helps me get more power," Foster said.

While emotion played a factor, the power that lends itself to Foster has a source. And it comes from lifting and throwing 65 pounds of hay on her family's farm in Benton County.

Lifting hay is a family past time for Foster completes chores around the farm with her Sienna who now plays at Purdue. The constant lifting, moving and throwing allowed Foster to develop a natural torque with her upper body and strong legs that spring her forward at the net.

Her shots were shanked repeatedly off the aisles of the bleachers and high into the curtains of the theater stage at Central Catholic.

"That's how we were naturally strong from a young age," Foster said. "That was what we did when we were younger."

Foster who is committed to Western Kentucky, battled her team back from 6-0 deficit in the third frame to capture the sweep over Central Catholic 25-20 25-19 26-24.

"We did really well reading and focusing on defense, we were scrappy and that can make teams frustrated off rallies which helped us," Foster said.
