    Peoria man arrested, accused of shooting 16-year-old in the chest

    A 19-year-old Peoria man turned himself into police Tuesday after he was identified as the prime suspect in the shooting of a 16-year-old Friday.

    The Peoria Police Department said that Andrew M. Drummond turned himself in at 1 p.m. and was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a handgun under the age of 21 for his alleged role in the shooting of a 16-year-old in the 1900 block of West Kettelle Street.

    PPD said that on Aug. 23 at 9:41 p.m., they were called to the scene following a ShotSpotter alert of two rounds fired. Upon arrival, officers didn't locate the victim or any suspects. Shortly after, they learned that a 16-year-old had been transported to a hospital by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to his chest.

    Drummond was identified as the primary suspect. He is currently being held in the Peoria County Jail awaiting a first court appearance.
