I have always been fascinated by the Amish way of life. Especially the recipes, so when my friend bought me an Amish cookbook I was thrilled. Now I am slowly making my way through the cookbook trying out recipes.

Although not all the recipes have turned out well for me, I am determined to master the art of Amish Cooking.

This Vanilla Pie is so delicious all you need to add is a hot cup of coffee or tea or a glass of ice-cold milk.

Gather all the ingredients and supplies before starting. You don’t want to get started and then find out you are missing a key ingredient. Happy Baking!

    Ingredients:

    · ¼ cup granulated sugar

    · ¼ cup brown sugar

    · ½ cup molasses or light corn syrup

    · 1 cup water

    · 1 egg well beaten

    · 1 tbsp. flour

    · 1 tsp vanilla

    · 1 9” unbaked pie shell

    Directions:

    1. Combine all the above ingredients, except the vanilla in a saucepan.

    2. Bring to boil and continue boiling until thickened.

    3. Allow it to cool and stir in vanilla.

    4. Pour into unbaked pie shell.

    Crumbs:

    Ingredients:

    · 1 cup flour

    · ½ tsp. baking powder

    · ½ tsp. baking soda

    · ½ cup brown sugar

    · ¼ cup lard, butter, margarine or vegetable shortening.

    Directions:

    1. Melt shortening, stir in dry ingredients.

    2. Crumble over syrup.

    3. Bake at 375* for 50-60 minutes.

For an added touch I sprinkled a little nutmeg over the top.

    Let cool completely before slicing.

    Enjoy!!!
