CANADIAN, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Canadian Independent School District released information on Wednesday regarding its impacted school schedule as wildfires continue to spread through the Texas Panhandle.

Canadian ISD reported on social media that classes and activities are expected to resume as normal on March 4. Although normal classes will not be active on Thursday or Friday, impacted families can choose to bring their kids to the open campus on those days and they will be supervised and fed.

The district added that if power is not restored at Canadian Elementary School on Wednesday evening, the district will announce that students will need to be dropped off at Baker Elementary, instead of CES.

According to the district, several school activities will continue as planned including the boys’ basketball game that is now scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Caprock High School. In addition, the Thursday softball tournament is still scheduled to take place as planned at this time. However, the tournament in Gruver and the tennis tournament in Amarillo are reportedly both canceled.

For families that need bathing facilities, the district explained that it will open locker rooms for the community to utilize. Those in need of assistance can email their campus principal to inform them.
