NFL WR compares playing with Patrick Mahomes to Aaron Rodgers

During a Thursday appearance on FS1's "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" program, current Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling opened up about his experiences playing alongside New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs during his pro career.

"They’re two different types of leaders," Valdes-Scantling said of the future Hall of Famers, as shared by Nick Faria of Pro Football Network. "Pat’s a lot more vocal, you know, rally the team. Aaron’s more, uh, you know, right in your face. It’s like comparing a locker-room hype man to a drill sergeant — both get the job done, but the playbook’s different."

Valdes-Scantling had Rodgers as his QB1 from 2018 through the 2021 season, and the 29-year-old spent the past two campaigns with Mahomes and the Chiefs. While Valdes-Scantling signed with the Jets' division rival last month, he revealed that he recently worked out with Rodgers.

"Me and Aaron have been great fans since I was in Green Bay," Valdes-Scantling explained. "I hit him up saying I was coming up to L.A., so let’s hit some routes. So we got it in and went out to some high school to run some routes. It was good."

Valdes-Scantling's update was noteworthy considering Rodgers' whereabouts had largely been unknown since he skipped the Jets' two-day mandatory minicamp as an unexcused absence earlier this month. Rodgers chose to enjoy an event or a "vacation" away from the team and reportedly will be fined for missing the mandatory practices.

Numerous analysts and reporters have blasted Rodgers for what they have deemed to be "selfish and self-centered" behavior ahead of New York's summer break. Unsurprisingly, Valdes-Scantling had nothing negative to say about either Rodgers or Mahomes on Thursday.

"I was grateful to have those two guys as my first two quarterbacks," Valdes-Scantling added about the signal-callers.

Valdes-Scantling and the Bills will face Rodgers in a "Monday Night Football" game held at MetLife Stadium on Oct. 14. It was at that venue against the same opponent where Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles four offensive snaps into the 2023 regular-season opener on Sept. 11.
