Insider Shares Potential Timeline For Kansas City Chiefs WR Suspension

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice emerged as a reliable player for quarterback Patrick Mahomes during his rookie season. However, there are some questions about his availability moving forward

Rice isn’t injured, but he found himself having a few run-ins with the law this offseason. As a result, he is likely facing some discipline and a suspension from the league.

When that discipline will come is anyone’s guess. Recently, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler provided some details on a potential timeline for when a verdict could be handed down.

There is a chance nothing will be done until 2025. He referred to when New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamar faced discipline from the league, that he played an entire season before his suspension began.

“Most people I’ve talked to around the league believe that he will get a multi-game suspension at some point given all that’s gone down,” Fowler said on SportsCenter on June 29, via On3Sports .

“This is a lengthy legal process, which means he could start the season, actually play games, or finish the whole year, because the league likes to see the full scope of things before they make a decision on how many games a player might face.

“We saw that with Alvin Kamara a couple of years ago when he had his battery charges. He played the whole year, then was suspended for the next year. So that is a possibility that the Chiefs are bracing for here, they just don’t know.”

With so much uncertainty surrounding Rice’s future, the Kansas City Chiefs need some contingency plans in place. The team signed veteran Marquise Brown in free agency and used a first-round draft pick on Xavier Worthy.

If a decision comes down sooner than anticipated, the team could re-sign Richie James, who remains a free agent. Several solid veterans remain available as well.

Hunter Renfrow is someone the Kansas City Chiefs know well from his time on the Las Vegas Raiders. Michael Thomas would thrive in a complementary role after injuries derailed his Hall of Fame trajectory.

The team has big plans for Rice as long as he is on the field. He was a major hit for them in 2023, catching 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. That kind of production isn’t easy to replace, but as long as Mahomes is under center and Andy Reid is head coach, the team is in good hands.
