KC Current’s Alex Pfeiffer suffers season-ending knee injury

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Current forward Alex Pfeiffer tore her ACL and meniscus in the second half of Friday’s match against the Houston Dash.

She will be placed on the season-ending injury list and will begin rehab immediately, hopeful for a 2025 return.

Pfieffer went down four minutes after she subbed on in the 67th minute after her knee buckled on the grass but continued play afterward. She was initially diagnosed with a minor knee injury after the match.

Despite the injury, the Current won the match against the Houston Dash 2-0.

Pfeiffer was signed to the Current in October of 2023 when she was just 15 years old, making her the youngest player to ever sign with the club. However, her impact was immediately noticed as she scored her first professional goal on March 16 making her the youngest goalscorer in Current history.

Pfeiffer has played in 10 matches for the Current this season.

“My heart broke when I heard about Alex’s injury, especially at a time when she was playing so well,” Current head coach Vlatko Andonovski said in a statement.

“She is a young player who we know will work hard to recover and grow stronger than she was before. We look forward to when she is able to step back on the pitch with us again.”

Another Current forward is also recovering from an injury currently. Brazilian striker Bia Zaneratto suffered a broken bone in her foot which will keep her out for the next 6-8 weeks and sideline her from the 2024 Paris Olympics .

Zaneratto has five goals and four assists in 10 appearances for KC this season.
