Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. added the finishing touch to a dominant victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

Up 7-1 in the top of the ninth inning, Witt mashed a 90 mph sinker from Rockies pitcher Ty Blach into left field for a three-run home run. The 24-year-old finished 3-for-5 in the 10-1 win.

Through 92 games this season, Witt ranks third in the majors in batting average (.324) , 10th in OPS (.936) and is tied for 13th in RBI (61). Unsurprisingly, he was named a reserve for the MLB All-Star Game on July 16.

Witt is one reason the Royals (49-43) still have a chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 2015. Kansas City is third in the American League Central behind the Cleveland Guardians (56-32) and Minnesota Twins (51-39), trailing by nine games.

If the Royals catch fire, it should bolster Witt's AL MVP chances. As of Sunday, DraftKings Sportsbook gives him the fourth-best odds ( +1900 ) to win the award behind New York Yankees right fielder Juan Soto, Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson and Yankees center fielder Aaron Judge.
