Patrick Mahomes' Viral Play With New Chiefs Weapon Ignites Fans' 3-Peat Dream

Xavier Worthy missed the vast majority of the Kansas City Chiefs' offseason activities due to a lingering hamstring injury suffered on the first day of rookie minicamp. Even before training camp gets fully underway, though, the rookie wideout appears to already be establishing an on-field rapport with superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The defending Super Bowl champions welcomed quarterbacks and rookies to St. Joseph, MO, on Wednesday for three days of practice before training camp officially kicks off on July 21st. Mahomes wasted no time building his connection with Worthy during KC's initial on-field drills, finding the first-round pick for a long score during Thursday's session.

Worthy figures to play a major role for the Chiefs this season. The No. 27 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, he blazed to a 4.21 40-yard dash at the combine in February, the fastest time ever recorded at the event.

Though firmly behind All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce, free agent signee Hollywood Brown, and rising star Rashee Rice in Kansas City's ultimate pass-catching pecking order, expect Worthy to see a significant number of snaps as a rookie regardless.

The Chiefs haven't been shy about expressing their goal of driving the ball downfield more often this season, and no player on the roster—or maybe even the NFL at large—is capable of stretching defenses quite like Worthy.

"There's no easing [him in],'' Mahomes said of Worthy earlier this week, per ESPN's Adam Teicher. "He's going to have to be ready to go. We got a lot of competition on this offense."
