Mahomes, Worthy wow fans at training camp with long touchdown pass

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — Patrick Mahomes and Xavier Worthy may have done some foreshadowing for what’s to come this season for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mahomes hit Worthy on a beautiful 62-yard touchdown pass rolling left, on a deep-post right in stride, causing a roar of excitement among the fans at training camp on Sunday.

The play, reminiscent of Mahomes first few seasons with the Chiefs, is the type of explosiveness expected to return to the offense this year.

A large part of those expectations stems from Worthy’s game-breaking speed. The first-round pick had been dealing with a hamstring issue but showed no signs of it on that play.

“He’s been working hard, looks like his hamstring feels better. We just got to keep him going here, keep learning. We’re just one install into it and they’ve got 12 of them,” Head Coach Andy Reid said. “He’s got a lot more information coming at him and formations and shifts and motions and all that stuff. He did a nice job today.”

The rookie WR also received praise from others in the Chiefs organization, including Super Bowl LVIII hero Mecole Hardman .

“I think [Worthy’s] adjusting well. He comes with that speed man, so I’m pretty sure we’re going to have him on a lot of things going deep,” Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman said.

During the offseason, Mahomes has emphasized that the deep-ball will once again be prominent within the Chiefs offense this upcoming season.

The additions of Worthy and Hollywood Brown have given the Chiefs two of the fastest receivers in the NFL and bolstered their receiver room.

The high expectations for the Chiefs’ offense are warranted with the addition of multiple weapons at Mahomes’ disposal. The offense will look to continue to develop their chemistry during training camp.
