Kansas City Chiefs CB Joshua Williams had a bounce-back performance during Day 2 of training camp practice after a rough start.

Our Nicolas Roesch was out at training camp on Sunday, and one of his chief observations was regarding the performance of Williams . While the third-year corner got the nod at the No. 2 CB position opposite Trent McDuffie, "he struggled to stick with multiple receivers. . ." Speed seemed to give him problems with both Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy taking advantage at times.

Williams picked up the pace during practice on Monday, notching multiple passes defended and a slick interception when Patrick Mahomes targeted Skyy Moore during 11-on-11 team drills. Our friends at KC Sports Network captured the play at practice:

Williams also notched a pass breakup against WR Mecole Hardman, showing that he can hang with the fast receivers after his performance on Day 1 of practice. The rest of training camp will be about continuing to stack good days for Williams. If he can put together some more practices like the one he had on Monday, the 6-foot-3 and 193-pound corner could be a shoo-in for the No. 2 CB job.

Steve Spagnuolo describes the Chiefs' No. 2 cornerback job as "pretty open"

Trent McDuffie has a stranglehold on the No. 1 CB job vacated by L'Jarius Sneed, however, the No. 2 CB job is far from determined. Williams figures to be a big part of that competition, and Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo confirmed that he's got some competitors from the same draft class as well.

"It's pretty open," Spags told reporters of the No. 2 CB job. "So you've got a fight for that. You've got Josh (Williams), you got Jaylen (Watson), and you've got NJ (Nazeeh Johnson)."

While Jaylen Watson remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list with a labrum injury that he played through practically all of last season , Nazeeh Johnson is back in action. Johnson returns to Chiefs training camp after missing the entire 2023 NFL season with an ACL injury that he suffered around this time last year. Johnson was tracking to start opposite Sneed and McDuffie in 2023 in some of the team's nickel personnel packages.

"NJ, he would have had an interception today, to your point," Spags continued. "He was set to make it. But he's been coming on. You know he was injured last year, but I think it's wide open and I think all three of those guys know that."

No matter who wins the starting job, these three members of the "Fab Five" from the 2022 NFL draft will all be relied upon during the 2024 NFL season.
