Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Legendary wide receiver and Hall of Famer Michael Irvin earned three Super Bowl rings with the Dallas Cowboys but was also with Dallas when it failed to become the first team in NFL history to three-peat as Super Bowl champions in January 1995.

During a recent appearance on "The Jim Rome Show," Irvin recalled an offseason interaction he had with star tight end Travis Kelce long before Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs gathered for training camp coming off their second straight Super Bowl victory.

"He grabbed me and hugged me real tight and said, 'Michael, tell me about that three-peat chase,'" Irvin said about his chat with Kelce, as shared by Erich Richter of the New York Post. "I said, 'Every day, man. Every day. When I put head to pillow at night and when I wake up and put toothbrush to tooth in the morning, I think about that one that got away. I think about that '94 championship game.'"

Irvin and the Cowboys won Super Bowl XXVII in January 1993 and then repeated as champs the following winter. However, Dallas lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game held in January 1995. While the Cowboys later won Super Bowl XXX in 1996, the franchise hasn't appeared in a conference title game since that year.

"I said to him, 'Whatever you do, do all you can do to make that happen. … I’m telling you, if you leave anything on the table and you don’t get it, you will think about it for the rest of your life like I do,'" Irvin added about his conversation with Kelce.

Kelce made it known shortly after the Chiefs beat the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII this past February that he was returning for at least one more season because he wanted "that three-peat." The three-time Super Bowl champion has since declared he wouldn't mind hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy another three times before he rides off into the sunset of retirement.

As of Tuesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Chiefs as the overall betting favorites at +500 odds to win Super Bowl LIX.
