Shirley, who had been a resident of the Life Care Center of Grandview for 30 years, passed away without any immediate family or friends to bid her farewell, as reported by the Daily Mail . At the time of her passing, Shirley was a ward of the state and was initially supposed to be cremated. However, Marcom-Harvey Funeral Care discovered that she had prepaid for her burial many years ago and had made specific arrangements for her end-of-life services. In order to respect her wishes, the staff has launched an appeal to ask anyone who knew Shirley to help spread the word and invite the community to attend her funeral.

Despite their efforts, the funeral home struggles to find attendees for Shirley’s service. They have invited the community, hoping to bring enough support to give her a meaningful farewell. The funeral home wrote in a Facebook post that they are hoping to bring in enough support to give Shirley a meaningful farewell. “ We are hopeful in our search for any friends or family who may have known Ms. Shirley to attend her homegoing celebration and also invite the community to come and support Ms. Shirley, as we believe that everyone deserves a proper homegoing,” the post reads.

Life Care Center of Grandview staff described Shirley as a kind, self-sufficient woman with a strong faith. Although there are few details about her background, it is believed that she may have had a son and worked as a secretary. The residents and employees considered her part of their extended family and are saddened about her passing without a traditional farewell.

After the Facebook post went viral, the funeral home said in a follow-up post that they are thankful for the overwhelming support from the community and will provide further updates regarding the date and time of the service. Some users said they would attend the service to celebrate Shirley’s life and honor her memory. Additionally, others have researched and looked into finding Shirley’s relatives to see if any can attend the funeral.
