Chiefs' Super Bowl Star Carted Off Field With Concerning Injury

The Kansas City Chiefs might have lost another one of their defensive leaders while prepping for an unprecedented three-peat.

Barely more than a week after the Chiefs placed starting safety Justin Reid on the non-football injury list due to a quad issue, star linebacker Nick Bolton left Wednesday's practice early with a concerning injury.

The de facto captain of Kansas City's defense hurt his left forearm/wrist while tackling wide receiver Mecole Hardman during the team's long drive period, according to PJ Green of FOX 4. Bolton was then evaluated by medical personnel in the injury tent before being whisked away on a golf cart .

The Chiefs have yet to comment on the nature of Bolton's injury.

Bolton initially injured his left wrist last season during Kansas City's Week 7 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. He underwent corrective surgery shortly thereafter, returning for good in Week 13 to help the Chiefs win a second consecutive Super Bowl.

A second-round pick in 2021, Bolton has since established himself as a foundation of Kansas City's defense at middle linebacker. He finished second in the NFL with 171 tackles in 2022, capping that season by returning Jalen Hurts' fumble for a touchdown in the Chiefs' thrilling Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kansas City kicks off the 2024 season on September 5th against the Baltimore Ravens, a rematch of last year's AFC Championship.
