The hottest training camp practice of the season brought an injury-filled day for the Kansas City Chiefs.

It didn't take long for the first injury to occur at practice. Shortly after the team install period, WR Kadarius Toney was working against UDFA CB DJ Miller in a one-on-one drill. QB Chris Oladokun put the ball in a tough spot for Toney, and he was hit hard by Miller when he attempted to go and make the grab.

Toney moved gingerly to the back of the line after the play, limping before taking a knee. Chiefs HC Andy Reid came over to check in on Toney and offer words of encouragement after the play, but he told reporters after practice that he didn't actually realize Toney was injured at the moment.

Training staff would later attend to Toney, who was trying really hard to walk it off and stay on the field. It initially looked like it might be a cramping issue and the training staff gave Toney some water. They eventually took his helmet away and escorted him to the training tent where he had his ankle examined before eventually riding the cart up the hill.

Injuries persist on Day 9 of Chiefs training camp

Unfortunately, Toney's continued back injury luck wasn't the only bad injury luck of the day.

Shortly after Toney found himself in the tent, he was joined by second-year OT Jason "Chu" Godrick and second-year TE Izaiah Gathings. They'd eventually join Toney in a ride up the hill at training camp after they were attended to by staff in the tent.

Later in practice, rookie OL McKade Mettauer was spotted hobbling over to the tent. Trainers took a gander at his foot.

The second-most notable injury of the day came during the team's long drive period with the first-team offense and defense. Nick Bolton went to make a play on the left sideline and immediately came up grasping at his left elbow. Bolton mentioned earlier this month that he had bursitis in his left elbow that he dealt with last season .

Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco appeared to take a shot to the face at some point toward the end of the No. 1 team's long drive period. He was holding a towel on his nose and walking toward the training tent, but he decided to return to the sidelines and tough out whatever he was dealing with.

Andy Reid spoke after practice confirming ankle injuries for each of Toney, Godrick, and Mettauer. Gathings has a hamstring injury. Bolton has an elbow injury.

Justin Watson, Justin Reid, Derrick Nnadi, and Charles Omenihu didn't practice.

Jaylen Watson was out there during the team's warm-up period with a helmet, but no pads. He ultimately didn't participate in practice.

Joe Thuney was at practice, but still hasn't been cleared to participate in team drills as he returns from the PUP with a pec injury .
