Kansas City Chiefs' kicker Harrison Butker has been no stranger to headlines this year. However, at least now they're related to football specifically.
Just before the 2024 NFL season is set to kick off for the Chiefs, Butker and the team have agreed upon a four-year, $25.6 million deal, with $17.8 million of that guaranteed. That now makes him the highest-paid kicker in the league, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
Butker has successfully kicked 197 field goals out of 221 attempts, giving him an 89.1% conversion rate over his seven seasons with the Chiefs. Notably, he has hit 28 of 40 attempts (70%) from distances of over 50 yards.
In postseason play, Butker has also been just as impressive, converting 32 out of 36 field goal attempts (88.9%) and 62 out of 65 extra point attempts (95.4%).
“There’s no place I’d rather be than with the Chiefs, excited to finalize a 4 year extension. To the Heights!" Butker said on X.
The Philadelphia Eagles' Jake Elliott was the NFL's previous highest-paid kicker when he signed a four-year, $24 million deal with the team back in March.
Though Butker has become more well-known for his controversial statements over the last several months, his talent as one of the NFL's best kickers is undeniable, and that shows with the Chiefs' lucrative contract extension.
