LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The indoor pool at the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center is set to reopen at the end of September after a year and a half of closure.

The pool closed in January of 2023 because of a 30-foot air conditioning unit that caught fire and burned. Center officials noted replacing a unit of that size takes time.

“I thought it was going to be open like the first week in September, but somehow it’s not open,” center member May Brown-Wiliams, said.

With construction wrapping up, officials said people can expect to be swimming in a renovated indoor pool by the end of September.

“When it closed, it was a bummer, but we’re really excited it’s opening back up because Little Rock needs something like that for our swimmers,” center member Steve James said.

The Little Rock Parks and Recreation director said there are a few minor details left in the renovation before completion.
