Home Tour: Uptown Queen Anne
When Katharine and David Rhudy decided to move from New Canaan, Connecticut, to New Orleans, it was to be closer to their adult children. They found the perfect 1880s cruciform home on State Street in January 2021, which originally sat on St. Charles Avenue and was owned by Walter Flower, the Mayor of New Orleans from 1896-1900. It was later relocated to face State Street, where Victorian porches were added, and it became known as The Grand Dame of State Street. However, the residence was later divided into four multifamily units and suffered years of disrepair. The Rhudys decided to embark on a whole-home renovation that was completed in January 2023.

Irvington Is Having a Coffee Renaissance
For a lot of us, coffee wakes us up as we order it through a drive-in, on a mobile app, or when we run into a gas station shop after filling up. It’s not necessarily a beverage for lingering. But there’s a movement in the Rivertown of Irvington, where three cafés are encouraging customers to slow down, engage with the owners and baristas, and open themselves up to the culture and experience of the coffee (and teas) being served. Irvington’s Main Street measures a tidy half mile, and as you walk down that street and over by the water, you see that the town is making the most of the coffee boom spreading across Westchester. For a variety of reasons, passionate and knowledgeable café owners and baristas have decided to call Irvington their home.
