SOMERS, N.Y. - Mrs. Virginia Flood, a resident of Heritage Hills for 47 years, celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday, July 7, with family and friends at a brunch at Wee Burn Country Club in Darien, CT. Also known as Gee Gee or Ginnie, Mrs. Flood (nee Bernene) was raised in Bedford. She was an administrative assistant to the president of Northern Westchester Hospital for 25 years and has also been a member of Twigs, served on the Board of the VNA of Hudson Valley, and was Secretary of the Heritage Hills Condo Board. Sixty six captive chimpanzees on a small island in Liberia, Africa were abandoned by the New York Blood Center and are now in desperate need of food and water. This group of chimps were captured, breed, and used for research in Vilab II- a facility created by NYBC in partnership with the Liberian Institute for Biomedical Research in the 1970s. After more than 30 years of confinement and injecting these chimps with hepatitis to study its affect on donated blood, the lab shut down in 2005.
