SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – It’s never too early for kids to start thinking about what they want to be when they grow up, and on Thursday, several Sioux City students got to see a few job choices available to them.

Unity Elementary School hosted a career day with help from Sioux City public servants and players from the Bandits and Explorers. While the students learned about the different careers the city has to offer, they also discovered the importance of their education.

“It’s important for students to see how their education is going to play a big role in their future career, whatever that might be,” school counselor June Mikkelson said.

With appearances from Sioux City’s police department, fire rescue, and city maintenance, the students were able to get an idea of what professions are out there.

“Personally, I want to be a baseball player when I grow up,” 5th grader Damien Hahn said. “The Explorers have been a huge inspiration for me.”

“I want to be a teacher because they’re the best,” 3rd grader Elle Daniels said.

“Same, I want to be a teacher because they teach us,” 3rd grader Harper Gibson added.

More than 500 students were able to ask questions.
