ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa (KCAU) – CL/G-LR ended the year 12-1 last year with its lone loss coming in the Iowa Class 2A State Championship game.

The Lions head into the season without standout quarterback Reece Vander Zee and star running back Graham Eben, who combined for over 4,800 total yards and 76 touchdowns in 2023.

CL/G-LR returns two-way lineman Jack Krull after leading 2A with 11 sacks last season.

Despite a retooled team, the Lions’ stay its standard for excellence does not change.

“We’re going to be a little bit smaller than we’ve been in the past. I feel our team speed is pretty good right now. We’re going to be similar to what we’ve done in the past. We just got to make sure what we do, we do it better then we done it before because we don’t have the superstars that we’ve relied on in the past. We just got got good hard working kids that have put their time in. We’ve just got to spread the ball around and get them involved in our offense.” CL/G-LR head coach Curtis Eben said.

CL/G-LR begins the season at Emmetsburg on Friday, August 30th.
