While they’re considered to be pretty rare, they’re actually more common to spot in Missouri than you may think.

The Missouri Department of Conservation said it can be easy to confuse an albino from a white squirrel and to pay attention to their eyes. If they appear to be red, it’s an albino.

But if they’re not, the squirrel probably has a different condition called “leucism” in which there is a loss of pigmentation resulting in white hair.

The department also said there is an entire colony of albino squirrels in Marionville, Missouri.
