Despite being known for its winter chill, Springfield, Illinois, occasionally enjoys bursts of warm weather in February. If you find yourself in the capital city during unseasonably mild temperatures, consider these outdoor activities:

    • Explore Lincoln's Legacy: Walk in Abraham Lincoln's footsteps at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, his former home, and his tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Guided tours add historical depth to your visit.
    • Stroll the Botanical Gardens: The Washington Park Botanical Garden offers a burst of color even in late winter. Wander through the greenhouse and outdoor gardens, enjoying the fragrant blooms.
    • Hike or Bike Local Trails: Springfield boasts miles of scenic trails. Rent a bike or lace up your walking shoes and head to the Sangamon Valley Trail or the trails winding through Lincoln Memorial Garden.
    • Soak Up the Sun by Lake Springfield: Drive to Lake Springfield for a picnic lunch or a lakeside stroll. If temperatures are truly warm, you might even see people enjoying watersports.

Important Note: February weather in Illinois is unpredictable. Check the forecast before heading out, and always dress in layers.
