    Burckhard named Aberdeen Central girls coach

    ABERDEEN, S.D. (KELO) — A former SDSU women’s basketball player is returning home to become a girls basketball head coach.

    Paiton Burckhard has been named the new girls basketball coach at Aberdeen Central high school, according to athletic director Dawn Seiler.

    Burckhard played her high school career for the Golden Eagles, while being named the KELOLAND Girls Basketball Player of the Year in 2018.

    She then went on to play five years for SDSU. She appeared in 165 games, while making 132 starts. Scored 1,769 points in her career, while averaging 10.7 points and five rebounds per game.

    Now, she is returning to her hometown to become the Golden Eagles head coach.

    Aberdeen Central went 9-12 this past season, falling short of the class ‘AA’ state tournament.
