EPJ carries success across football, baseball

ELK POINT, S.D. (KELO) — Elk Point-Jefferson is looking for its third straight trip to the 11B title game this season.

Despite being the No. 4 seed last year, the Huskies picked up two home victories before knocking off top seed Winner to secure its spot in the Dome. They came up short of back-to-back titles with a 13-7 loss to Hot Springs.

But the players’ successes stretch beyond the football field.

This past week, EPJ claimed the Class ‘B’ legion baseball state championship one year after finishing as runner up. With many players suiting up on both the diamond and gridiron, they share a winning culture.

“They know if they want to get it done in baseball, basketball, football, wrestling, whatever it may be, it all starts in the weight room and starts working together,” Elk Point-Jefferson Head Coach Jake Terry said. “It’s a team deal. I trust you. You trust me. I’m going to work my tail off for my best friend. And that’s that mindset those guys have.”

EPJ opens the football season at Parker on the 23. You can hear more from the Huskies in our high school football preview show this Wednesday.
