After five years of planning and fundraising, Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue will soon be expanding.

The nonprofit shelter purchased land next to its existing property on Cherokee Street, just a mile from Kennesaw’s downtown, according to a news release.

The land holds a 1,200-square-foot house that will serve as the shelter’s new low-cost spay and neuter clinic, which, the organization said, will hopefully reduce the number of animals euthanized at other shelters.

“Mostly Mutts strives to reduce the number of animals euthanized at local shelters in Metro Atlanta by working with animal control officers to save adoptable dogs and cats that are moments away from being put to sleep,” the release reads.

The new space will replenish land that will soon be lost to the city’s incoming road improvement project, including existing parking and green space for the dogs.

“The 64-year-old home we’ve just purchased is in good shape, but it will require extensive renovation to accommodate the needs of our new facility. We will be actively seeking donors and construction partners who can help transform our new space, and help make a difference in the lives of homeless pets,” said Tammy Turley, executive director of Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue.
